Please note that in addition to the program fee for skaters there will be:

  • for each family that registers with ASFSC, they will be assessed a $25 Refundable February Board Meeting Deposit.  This deposit will be returned if a family member attends the February 12, 2020 Board Meeting in the Aspen Room at Ardrossan Recreation Centre at 6 p.m.  The charge will only be applied once per family.
  • each skater that registers with ASFSC will be assessed an Annual Skater Skate Canada Fee (Sept 1, 2019 to Aug. 31, 2020) of $43.65.  This fee is set by Skate Canada and is comprised of: Registrant Fee (National) $20.00; Registrant Fee (Sectional) $20.00; Safe Sport Fee $3.00; and Accident Insurance Fee $0.65.  This fee is only charged once per year to each skater, and is remitted to Skate Canada.

Program Description:

CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters who have achieved Stage 4 of the Canskate program or equivalent. Canpowerskate is divided into three fundamental areas: Balance, Control and Agility this program allows for the opportunity to focus on skating outside of the game or practice.

Equipment required: FULL Equipment Suggested and CSA Helmet, Stick, Gloves and hockey skates are Mandatory.

CanSkate is a program designed for children of all ages who have completed the PreCanSkate program or have basic skating skills. This program is for children 5 years of age and up.   These 45 minute group lessons focus on the fundamental movements of skating such as Go Forward, Go Backward, Stop, Turn, Spin & Jump, in a six stage program.This program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.  Lessons are given in a group format and led by certified NCCP Professional Coaches and assisted by trained Program Assistants.  Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make session’s active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. 

Equipment required: skates, mitts and  a CSA approved hockey helmet with a cage (NO bike helmets).

PreSTARSkate is our transition program between the CanSkate and STARSkate programs. Skaters must have passed Stage 2 minimum of the CanSkate program. Skills are taught in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters learn how to practice independently, a skill needed when they transition to STARSkate. This 1 hour session includes a 45 minutes of instruction with a professional coach, and a15 min independent practice time. The registration fee covers ice and coaching costs. It is recommended that skaters register to skate at least 2 days/week.

Skating Equipment check list:
 
o Good quality figure skates (Pro Skate or United cycle – can buy good quality used skates)
o Helmet – CSA approved if skater has not completed stage 5 canskate badge
o Pair of hard skate guards – need to wear when walking to and from ice surface
o Pair of soft guards – used to store skates in bag
o Skating bag
o Cloth – used to wipe skates after use
o Pair of thin gloves
o Acceptable clothing: leggings or tights and a skating skirt/dress, thin jacket/vest (use layers if the rink is cold). NO JEANS, NO BULKY CLOTHING (no winter jacket), NO BARE LEGS.
